Good fundraising code

Many causes cannot afford the fees other codes charge to agree to adhere to their standards.  It is important, we feel, that there is not a price tag on charities to be seen to follow best practice and be honest and transparent with their supporters.  There is also a danger that causes who do not pay a fee to subscribe to other codes are perceived somehow as 'second class' or 'lower standard' in donors eyes.  This cannot be good for our sector.

As a result, on 12th February 2009, the GOOD FUNDRAISING CODE launched that is free for any organisation to adopt.

The responsibility for adhering to it rests with the organisation, and we can accept no responsibility for any breaches to the code.  However, we will remove any organisation from our list of causes adopting the code who can be proved to have breached it and welcome members of the public to contact us with such evidence should this occur.

Our Good Fundraising Code logo features on this page and will be emailed to those signing up.

The code is simple -

Principle 1 - To treat donors and supporters of all kinds with honesty and respect.

Principle 2 - To be transparent when asked about cost ratios, costs of fundraising and related issues.

Principle 3 - To abide by all legal regulations governing fundraising and aim for best practice.

Principle 4 - To have a complaints procedure for supporters to access when they do have a complaint about any fundraising.

Membership to date

367 organisations have already signed up to support the code.  Why not join them today?

Future Plans

Subcribers to the code have asked for facilities to be set up to share complaints procedures between each other - we will make this optional facility available and a discussion forum about the code for charities subscribing to the code, again free of charge.
